Facta Non Verba

Deeds Not Words

Swimming

Swimming is offered to all learners at WPS during the 1st & 4th terms. Swimming practice takes place during physical education lessons and after school. Additional squad training is also offered to those swimmers who are interested, at the parents’ own expense.

The 1st term offers a wide range of galas such as mixed relay & inter-school (B & E League).

WPS also holds an Inter-house gala, where our two houses, Blesbok & Eland, compete against each other.

The sports uniform that must be worn is as follows:

WPS swimming costume, WPS swimming cap, Navy blue WPS golf shirt, navy WPS shorts, flip flops. The WPS tracksuit is to be worn at galas. A swimming towel is also a requirement and swimming goggles are an optional extra.

Trials & Additional Galas

Uthukela & Midlands Trials take place in the 1st term. Swimmers qualify based on their times and then move on to participating in the KZN Primary School Championships.

The KZN Primary School Swimming Championships takes place in the 2nd term.

Swimmers are also informed about Level 1 & 2 galas and are able to represent WPS, however, this is done privately at their parents’ own expense.

Open Water Events

Swimmers are notified about various open water swimming events, where they are able to represent WPS at their parents’ own expense. A few of these swims are the Capital K, the Midmar Mile, the Sterkfontein Dam Swim, the Chelmsford Challenge and the Sun City Swim. This information is passed on by Mrs Ann Gray.

Recognition at our Annual Prize Giving is given to those who have swum over 3500m during the open water season from 01 May - 30 April.
