Speech & Drama

Each year, the school plays host to a Speech and Drama Festival.  Classes can prepare choral verse items, and learners may enter individual or group items themselves.  These items can be presented in English or Afrikaans, and learners may participate in their Home Language or an Additional Language.

Adjudicators from the Speech and Drama Society of South Africa watch each piece being performed, and give comprehensive feedback as well as an achievement symbol for them.

Winterton Primary School’s learners always receive glowing praise from the adjudicators, and our results are excellent.

In 2017, 44 A and 52 A+ symbols were awarded out of items entered in the English festival, and 14 A and 33 A+ symbols were awarded out of 65 entries in the Afrikaans festival.

The following comments were made by the English adjudicator (2016):

“A lovely, welcoming festival at Winterton.  The Grade R children had such a wide variety of entrants and I was very impressed with their confidence & ability.  The Foundation Phase children tried very hard & delivered lovely Show-and-Tell entries. A little more volume & less speed in their delivery will come with practice. The Intermediate and Senior Phase children were excellent, poised, confident & enthusiastic. On the whole; a very pleasing standard.  It is always a pleasure to adjudicate at Winterton Primary. I am always assured of a warm welcome & friendly hospitality.  Thank you to Felicity Gace for organising & running the Festival so smoothly, and Lynne Sclanders for being my festival clerk.” – Mrs Anne Warmsley
