Grade 1 Mrs King

Mrs Megan King has a four year diploma in Junior Primary Studies from the Natal Training College, majoring in English and Remedial Education, and has been involved with Winterton Primary School for 29 years in various capacities, before returning full-time in 2006.

She currently teaches a Grade 1 English Medium class, but has experience with Early Childhood Development and Grades 2 and 3.  She has previously had Language Assisted classes, and has a special interest in working with learners with barriers to learning.  She is a passionate educator, and also enjoys working with and mentoring junior colleagues.

Mrs King has coached tennis and hockey across the junior and senior primary over the years.

The Grade 1 teachers make an effort to keep open lines of communication with parents and guardians in order to best meet the needs of their learners.  They hold parents’ afternoons on a termly basis.

The Grade 1 learners have an annual third term excursion to Spioenkop Game Reserve, and this is a celebration of the new life brought by spring.  Other excursions periodically take place, including those to learners’ farms.

In a private capacity, Mrs King enjoys hiking in the Drakensberg, and ran the Winterton Primary School hiking club for many years.  She is also actively involved in her church, and enjoys assisting her husband in the running of their busy livestock farm.  Gardening, reading and cooking are all interests of hers as well.
