Athletics season is in the 3rd term. Physical Education periods and after school practices are used to prepare the children with the skills necessary to compete in each discipline we offer at our Inter-house athletics day. Trials for the Inter-house athletics day are done during the PE periods. The track and field events are sprints (all age groups), long distance (U10 – open), hurdles (U10 – open), high jump (U9 – open), long jump (U9 – open), shot put (U10 – open), javelin (U12 – open) & discus (U12 – open).


The sports uniform that must be worn is as follows:

WPS navy sport shirt, WPS navy shorts/skort, plain white ankle length socks and sport shoes

Eland: Orange sports shirt (WPS clothing store)

Blesbok: Green sports shirt (WPS clothing store)

Trials, Squads & Teams

A selected athletics team (U9-U13) competes at TDA (WPS, Bergville Primary, Drakensview, Mooi River & Dundee Primary) in the following disciplines long distance, sprints and field events, excluding hurdles, javelin & discus. The results from hurdles, javelin & discus recorded at the WPS inter-house event are put forward for DISA qualifications. A team is then selected from all TDA participants and then move on to competing at DISA against Egerton & Monument. The TDA team is comprised of the top 2 athletes in sprint, top 2 athletes in hurdles, top 3 athletes in long distance & top 3 athletes in field events.

The following steps need to be taken to achieve colours & honours:

WPS Interthouse (U7-Open)

WPS - TDA - DISA (U10 - U13)

KZN Colours (Dependant on qualification times at DISA)

SA School Championship meeting (Done in a private capacity)
